The Mugi designer: Morgan Wood
span: 800 mm
weight: 8 oz

The mugi is the brainchild of Morgan Wood and full construction details can be found at www.mugi.co.uk (one of the best done sites, modelling or otherwise, that I've seen in a long while). The mugi is a cheap and robust slope and power plane. Mine was set up as a slope plane and has now been de-commisioned due to excessive abuse.

My mugi's first test flight was from a sheer 100 foot cliff over the sea in Cornwall. Much to my suprise I didn't loose or destroy the mugi and I managed to get it flying well. I've had 45 minute flights where the mugi has been continously attacked by seaguls and its managed to survive everything thrown at it.

The final straw for my mugi was a trip to Brighton, strapped to the back of my motorbike. It just about survived the ride down, although it got a little more bent than it used to be. It then took 2 hours of flying in winds so strong I had to tape 2 AA batteries to the front just to get it to move out from the hill's edge. I had to stop flying in the end because every time I pulled out of a dive the wings folded. On the way back home I glanced in my mirror at one point and noticed that I was going so fast that the Mugi's wings were being wrapped around the side of my bike :-) Just in case the Mugi wasn't entirely dead I then took it out for a session on the bungee with a reciever that was being a little intermittent at the time.

I'll definitely be building another Mugi, they're very tough, very cheap, and very good fun to fly. Have a look at the site and see how easy they are to make. Also have a look at the nightfly section......
